There are a number of video projectors on the market, but there are three major classifications namely the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), the Digital Light Processing (DLP), and the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). There are also various models under each type, and each has its own unique features.

 

The first type, the Cathode Ray Tube is more practical because of its long projection life. Compared to the other two, the CRT may last for 20,000 hours while the light source of its counterparts may only last for 1,000 to 2,000 hours. On the other hand, the LCD is practical because it is compact while the DLP is actually not limited to home theaters and is sometimes used for movies as well.

  1.      Look for projectors with at least 1,000 ANSI Lumens for just the right brightness. The size of the room of your home theater will determine the amount of brightness needed from your projector.
  2.      For great contrast on colors of your video/movie, make sure your projector has a contrast ratio of at least 1,500:1. Meanwhile, a contrast ratio of 2,000:1 or higher will provide you the best quality for color contrast.
  3.      Pixel density should also be checked, and high native pixel count will be most beneficial.
  4.      Take into account the size of the projector and if it is portable enough for your needs. Also, match it with the right size screen that best works with the type and size of your projector.
